Coop Coco on TV: 2 perfumes you can make in less than an hour
If you make your own products, you know the kitchen is the kingdom of home-made cosmetics fans. We’re sure our products are no strangers to your kitchen (or bathroom, or purse, or cupboard, or bedside table or… well, you get the point). And since we make ourselves at home just about everywhere we go, we thought we’d drop by the kitchen of Marina Orsini. Not to blow our own horn, but we’re pretty proud of that!
If you missed that episode, you can watch it here.
And if you feel inspired by the contagious enthusiasm of Marina and Lyne to make your own perfumes, here are the two recipes made during the program.
So get cooking!
How to make old-fashioned eau de cologne
Ingredients
- 4.2 g (5.6%) lemon essential oil – Citrus limonum
- 2.4 g (3.2%) bergamot essential oil – Citrus bergamia
- 1.8 g (2.4%) rosemary cineole essential oil – Rosemarinus officinalis ct cineole
- 4.2 g (5.6%) sweet orange essential oil – Citrus sinensis
- 2.7 g (3.6%) true lavender essential oil – Lavandula angustifolia
- 59.7 g (79.7%) caprylis (also called fractionated coconut oil)
Tools
- 3 10ml roll-on bottles
- 1 60 ml blue glass bottle
- Ramekin to weigh essential oils
- Container to mix essential oils with fractionated coconut oil
- Scale accurate to 0.1g
- Small funnel
Steps to follow
- Prepare and sterilize your equipment and workspace.
- Weigh and mix essential oils. Since essential oils do not have the same density it is not possible to give the equivalent of the weight in drops, it depends on the essential oil and on the dropper. That’s why it is important to work with a scale accurate to 0,1g.
- Weigh fractionated coconut oil and add blend of essential oils. Stir gently to mix ingredients.
- Using a funnel, fill the containers.
Although the perfume is ready to use immediately, it’s a good idea to leave it in a cool, dark place for a week to allow the notes of the essential oils to blend. The perfume will change slightly day by day, and by the end of the week it will be completely stabilized. It is then said to be “fixed”.
