Essential oil blend recipes

Our scent blends are now yours!

If you’ve been following us for a few years, you probably know that we used to sell essential oil and aromatic essence blends, carefully crafted in our workshop, that you could use to scent your creations. As we no longer offer them, we thought it would be nice to share our natural scent blend recipes with you, so that you can make them yourself and add them to your candles, soaps, and creams. Perhaps these recipes will also inspire you to create your own blends… The possibilities are endless!

For the sake of simplicity, the recipes below each yield 50 grams of scent blend, which is just the right amount to fill a glass bottle—so, they’ll be good to go as soon as you need them! Of course, you can make more or less than 50 grams; we provide the appropriate percentages to help you out. In each “Good to know!” section, you’ll find some practical and safety information for the scent blend, so that you can put them to best use. This includes whether they’re safe to use in DIY candles, whether they’ll speed up trace in cold process soapmaking, and whether they contain photosensitizing ingredients.

 

Before you begin

Warning: these are scent blends, not perfumes, and should never be applied directly to your skin. They’re highly concentrated and designed to be incorporated only in small quantities in soap, candle, and cream recipes, wherever safe to do so (see “Good to know” below). You can also add them to one of our perfume recipes.

Fresh Mint 

This scent blend is like a fresh breeze. Invigorating mint and wintergreen meld with the crisp, woodsy aromas of pine, rosemary, and cypress.

Effect on trace: Contains one essential oil that speeds up trace (wintergreen).

Ingredients

• 3.9 g (7.73%) wintergreen essential oil
• 7.7 g (15.36%) rosemary ct cineole essential oil
• 7.7 g (15.36%) peppermint essential oil
• 7.7 g (15.36%) spearmint essential oil
• 15.4 g (30.83%) Siberian pine essential oil
• 7.7 g (15.36%) cypress essential oil

Day at the Beach

This sweet, lively fragrance recalls cocktails enjoyed on a tropical beach, so you can feel like you’re on a fabulous vacation!

Good to know!

Candle safe: No.

Effect on trace: None.

Careful: This scent blend contains photosensitizing essential oils (pink grapefruit and sweet orange). Avoid sun exposure in the eight hours following the application of a product containing it, unless it’s a product that you wash off. Reserve it for cleansing products or evening-use cosmetics recipes.

Ingredients

 

• 19.2 g (38.46%) pink grapefruit essential oil
• 19.2 g (38.46%) sweet orange essential oil
• 9.6 g (19.23%) bergamot essential oil
• 1.9 g (3.85%) coconut aromatic essence

Night of Mystery

This natural fragrance will win over every heart. Stimulating citrus top notes are followed by a Provençal bouquet— of lavender, rosemary, and mint—culminating in the deep,      enchanting scents of patchouli and frankincense.

Ingredients

• 12.1 g (24.14%) bergamot essential oil
• 12.1 g (24.14%) sweet orange essential oil
• 4.1 g (8.10%) ylang-ylang essential oil
• 4.1 g (8.10%) rosemary ct cineol essential oil
• 4.1 g (8.10%) lavender 40/42 essential oil 
• 12.1 g (24.22%) patchouli essential oil
• 1.6 g (3.20%) frankincense essential oil (10%)

Bengal Rose

This is a floral fragrance with attitude, combining the floral, woody notes of rosewood and palmarosa with a hint of cinnamon. Imagine breathing in a subtly spicy bouquet of wildflowers.

Ingredients

• 30.8 g (61.53%) palmarosa essential oil
• 15.4 g (30.82%) rosewood essential oil
• 3.8 g (7.65%) cinnamon leaf essential oil

 

Christmas Eve

The cozy scent blend recipe combines invigorating citrus with the warmth of spiced holiday cakes.

Effect on trace: Contains four ingredients that speed up trace (benzoin and clove, ginger, and black pepper essential oils).

Careful: This scent blend contains photosensitizing essential oils (sweet orange and lime). Avoid sun exposure in the eight hours following the application of a product containing it, unless it’s a product that you wash off. Reserve it for cleansing products or evening-use cosmetics recipes.

Ingredients

• 39.2 g (78.30%) sweet orange essential oil
• 5.7 g (11.30%) lime essential oil
• 3.4 g (6.80%) benzoin (80%)
• 0.5 g (0.90%) ginger essential oil
• 0.5 g (0.90%) clove essential oil
• 0.5 g (0.90%) black pepper essential oil
• 0.5 g (0.90%) cinnamon leaf essential oil

Zesty Lavender

A bracing floral fragrance, in which lively citrus notes elevate the herbal, flowery bouquet of lavender and palmarosa.

• 16.7 g (33.34%) lavender 40/42 essential oil 
• 16.7 g (33.33%) lime essential oil
• 16.7 g (33.33%) palmarosa essential oil
