Tools

Good to know!

  • You can use yellow or white beeswax.
  • We advise against replacing the candelilla wax with another vegetable wax.
  • If you’d like to use a different oil or butter than those included in this lip balm recipe, make sure you replace that ingredient with a similar product. For example, a hard butter must be replaced by another hard butter or a dry oil by another dry oil.
  • We chose evening primrose oil because it revitalizes skin and improves its elasticity.
  • Rich in antioxidants, mango butter protects and soothes your lips.
  • Castor oil is restorative and softening.
  • Hazelnut oil has restorative and protective properties, ideal qualities in a homemade lip balm.
  • The waxes are protective and harden the lip balm.
  • Vitamin E is not only an antioxidant that helps prevent the oils from going rancid, it’s also revitalizing.

Steps to follow

  1. Prepare and disinfect your equipment and workspace.
  2. Weigh the wax, the mango butter, and the three oils in the small bowl. Melt on the double boiler.
  3. Weigh the flavour and vitamin E in a ramekin.
  4. Cut the tip off of a pipette using a pair of scissors.tinted lip balm recipe
  5. Weigh the powders in the lid of the pigment blender. Holding the pigment blender with the blades pointed upwards, mix for about 20 seconds while shaking the blender. Repeat this process four times, scraping the powders off the blades and the walls of the lid between each mixing. This will help yield an even shade.
  6. When the wax, butter, and oil mixture has melted, add the flavour and vitamin E. Add the colourants and mix well.lip balm recipe
  7. Use the previously cut pipette to fill the empty tubes. If the mixture is too solid, put it back on the double boiler for a few moments. Be careful not to overheat it or the vitamin E and flavour will lose their effects.
  8. Place the filled tubes in the fridge for about ten minutes. Once you take them out, we recommend waiting a further 30 minutes before using your beautiful homemade lip balms!

Conservation

When made in optimal sanitary conditions, your DIY lip balm will keep for at least six months.
